Manu tells the British officers that if they force the women to lift their veils, she will complain to the king and accuse the officers of outraging their modesty. The women are allowed to proceed without being checked. Meanwhile, Motibai tries her best to make Gangadhar see that the girl participating in the prayers is not Manu.
